There were a number of criticisms about my voice. I remember that a Washington Times writer once described my speaking as "shouting in a staccato Long Island accent." I am used to lecture halls of considerable size, and perhaps I don't adjust so well to smaller classrooms. Anyhow, earlier that day I had to speak over 44 children's (aged 10-13) voices in an astronomy lesson that I did for the GMU "Horizons Camp" group. My own ears were a little out of whack by the evening. Again, perhaps a poor excuse, but I always like to know that the kids in the back can really hear me. I'll try to be more gentle next time.
